Head of Learning Support

The Ladder School is looking to recruit an outstanding Head of Learning Support to join our team as soon as possible.

The Ladder School is an academy that is part of The Mercian Trust. The Ladder School is a Free School set up by the trust to offer effective alternative provision for the young people of Walsall.

Based on the edge of Walsall town centre there are excellent links to the local and wider community. The Ladder School will operate under a commissioning model,where local mainstream schools will identify students at risk of permanent exclusion and will move them to The Ladder School, to reform their behaviour and enable them to be successful in their future.

The Head of Learning Support will be required to offer in class and out of lesson support to a group of students and parents. They will be responsible for several pastoral elements of the school, working under the direction of the Principal. The applicants should have expertise of dealing with students that display challenging behaviour and should work in a relevant secondary setting.

All applicants must have a minimum qualification of Grade C/4 in English and Maths at GCSE level, it would be expected that further study (up to degree level) has taken place. Anyone wishing to apply for this post must have pastoral leadership and line management experience.

Applicants should be currently employed in a student facing role, where they can demonstrate an impact on students, families and the wider school community. Staff should have a real interest in the pastoral aspects of education and should be committed to working as part of a close-knit team. Previous applicants should not re-apply.

Site Support Officer

New SCP 4-6 currently (£18,244 - £18,981)

The Ladder School is looking to recruit an outstanding Site Support Officer to join our team as soon as possible.

This is a whole time post, however term-time only working request would be considered for an exceptional candidate.

The Site Support Officer will be responsible in supporting the Head of Operations to ensure that the school is a suitable environment for staff to work and students to learn.

The applicants should have experience of supporting the operational function of a site, ideally in a school setting. All applicants should have a qualification/certificate in Health and Safety and First Aid or should be willing to undertake this.

We would be particularly interested to hear from people that have a tradespersons background.

A good knowledge of how schools work is crucial to understanding the flexible approach needed to ensure the school can run effectively. Staff should be committed to working as part of a close-knit team.

Applicants that have experience/qualifications in a practical trade would be highly desirable for the position. A flexible approach to working is crucial to this post.

Teacher of Animal Care 0.6

The Ladder School is looking to recruit an outstanding Teacher of Animal Care to join our team for September 2019.

The Ladder School is an academy that is part of The Mercian Trust. The Ladder School is a Free School set up by the trust to offer effective alternative provision for the young people of Walsall.

The Ladder School will operate under a commissioning model, where local mainstream schools will identify students at risk of permanent exclusion and will move them to The Ladder School, to reform their behaviour and enable them to be successful in their future.

Teacher of Animal Care must be willing to teach the subject up to level three. Applications from those with/without Qualified Teacher Status will be considered for the posts.

Animal Care is currently being delivered as part of our KS4 pathways and we are introducing the course in September to our band new KS5 provision. We currently work with local organisations to give students hands on experience and we are in the process of introducing school pets to support the delivery of the course.

We will move to a brand new bespoke building in the next two years and plans are underway to have an urban farm. The successful applicant will have oversight of this section of the project.

CPD will be provided to ensure that the successful candidate has the skills to deliver these courses. There will be the opportunity for an exceptional candidate to gain their Qualified Teacher Status.

GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C are the minimum requirements for this post. We would welcome applications from graduates who are considering teaching as a career. Staff with experience in a school setting are also encouraged to apply.
